The planes were intended to collapse the buildings, I believe there were explosives present as an insurance in case the planes didn’t have the intended effect. Tower 7 is an entirely different story however

They would’ve had to shut the buildings down for weeks and drilled into the core of the building to plant massive charges to have even a chance of bringing it down
