You can talk about both, but the reason the Kirk shooting is the bigger headline is that American political assassinations were rare and mostly targeted at politicians who held offices for most of the 21st century. This seems like it could be a really ugly turning point in American history. As tragic as school shootings are, they’re unfortunately a less novel problem.
This has become a country of celebrity worship. We’ve numbed ourselves as a society to the plights or even deaths of the average person, to school shootings, child death, mass healthcare fraud, destruction of the environment, etc. The only people deemed deserving of our attention being those who know how to insert themselves into our view by riding some algorithm.
