it is literally a fake issue, republicans love to say obama cared about it so let me be clear, it was also a fake issue then, but even if it wasn’t the republican narrative falls apart since somehow obama built cages and deported sm people but immigration was also the worst it ever was in 2016 (until now ofc, funny how fake issues work)
Obama did deport people but he followed the law about it. He offered immigrants safe travel out of the country. Donald trump is not following the law about it and instead sending his new gestapo to take them to a maximum security prison in El Salvador. THATS what we’re upset about dumbass
You are lying. Trump and his administration have said view crime as simply coming over illegally, which is why they are targeting the entire undocumented population regardless of genuine crimes committed. Obamas administration went after violent offenders and people who newly entered the country. Both did separate kids which is extremely fucked, however no they did not have the same mission. One went after violent criminals the other went after workers who had been here for 20+ years
okay here: the Judical system said it’s unconstitutional and to bring them back and trump said NO which he legally cannot do. Checks and balances isn’t a literal enforcement it’s a piece of paper that you are expected to follow and it fails when people ignore it. You know, like TRUMP. He literally has overstepped every check and balances isn’t sent his way and ignored the Supreme Court multiple times
Here is an actual report of the numbers compared to Bush & Clinton. Obama actually lowered the number of deportations overall while again focusing on violent criminals and newly entered undocumented persons https://www.migrationpolicy.org/article/obama-record-deportations-deporter-chief-or-not
No need, here’s the solution: document them. The immigration system is not doing its job to help immigrants become naturalized it takes many people years to gain citizenship. So if we document undocumented immigrants, we can have a plan to naturalize them, we can see where they are, their history, criminal record, and all of this is cheaper than mass deportation :))
Literally isn’t a convicted rapist - he was sued in civil court by someone who said he did it like 20 years ago, and it’s shockingly similar to a TV episode on like law and order I think. They EXTENDED THE STATUTE of limitations in New York just so this suit could happen. Actually look into it, PLEASE.
So him managing to deport 7 million people less than in 2000 somehow means he continued to break the system? VS it clearly showing him making small steps to fix said system which we can see by the numbers? No one is perfect and Obama did many fucked up things, but what he did and what Trump is doing are very different
You realize that the immigrant flow into the country from 2010-2019 led to a 2% increase in wages right? “From 1980 to 2019, the researchers estimated that an increase of 10% in immigration was associated with wage increases of 0.2% for full-time U.S.-born workers and 0.3% for all U.S.-born workers. From 2000 to 2019, a 10% increase in immigration corresponded to wage increases of 0.1% for full-time U.S.-born workers and 0.2% for all U.S.-born workers.” Per American Immigration Council research
Yeah I’m sorry but I’m gonna need to see some sort of source if that is your claim. It’s not my view that all the “deport everyone illegal” folks are directly racist or anything, I just think that they were handed the flimsiest stand-in for a non-race reason and don’t care to seek out the truth. Trumps go to lies are that illegal immigrants increase crime or hurt the economy, although I haven’t heard much that backs up your claim either
its not even about illegal immigrants. there are law abiding noncitizens who dont have citizenship bc its a decade-long process who are being deported without due process. whats ur excuse for that? what about ICE rounding up ppl when they show up for their immigration court dates (which they are legally required to attend)?
I’m talking about legal workers under the work visa program. Illegal immigrant workers are just taking the worst positions and are exploited under the table. This isn’t the case with the work visa program where 70% of visas are going to someone who is Indian or Chinese, incredibly disproportionate representation of those applying for visas.
I agree that crime is still an issue in America without illegal immigration, but this doesn’t mean we should suddenly lower our guard when bad actors enter illegally. We should be able to notice that both are a threat to national safety and work to prevent both, not discredit one or the other.
