“She had a rough patch many years ago, in 2008, when she was convicted of burglary and grand theft and was sentenced to two years in prison. An immigration judge revoked her Green Card, which is a common practice. But because she is a Christian Armenian Iranian, the judge allowed her to remain in the country instead of being deported.”

She’s literally a convicted felon but her family thinks she’ll be released and only “the ones that are bad will be sent back” I’m DECEASED

Many Iranian Americans are literally the middle eastern version of most Cuban Americans, insane. Low iq authoritarian freaks

I’ve heard about this but didn’t really see it firsthand (if you consider this firsthand) until Mehdi Hasan’s Jubilee episode

Yeah…it’s honestly embarrassing for their community. My general observance irl has been that if they’re Muslim, they’re usually pretty chill. If they’re not Muslim, they’re usually not chill. Seems harsh but that has been my general observation

I’ve become esp wary of the Eastern Orthodox these days. I have literally nothing against their religion, I just notice they tend to be racist and antisemitic as fuck

I just read the article. The thing is, even though she’s insane, a criminal, & a hypocrite; I wouldn’t want her to be deported. I don’t want people’s families broken up, I do believe in people getting second chances, & I disagree with the inhumanity with which the ice gestapo treats people—but she & those like her could not care less for those principles, & have even said they’d immediately vote to do what was done to them to others. Why are ppl like this? No logic, no morality, it’s just a cult

Eastern Orthodox converts you mean? The person presumably isn’t but every experience I’ve had with Catholic converts, orthodox converts, has been them being racist weirdos and shit, and then there are those white western people who convert to islam and become salafists and shit too

it’s crazy to see people waving flags of the previous regime, photos of the shah etc. the islamic republic is an evil regime, it’s also one that only came to be because the shah’s secret police were disappearing and torturing thousands and because the standard response to protests was to open fire with live rounds

I don’t either. I’m curious how bad the burglary and theft were. The fact she’s a religious minority in her home country is significant too imo. She could move to Armenia instead (like many ethnic Armenians did after the USSR fell) but she has basically no roots there

Armenians have their own towns and are not persecuted in Iran, many Armenians were welcomed there and even chose to flee there during the war with Azerbaijan instead of Armenia proper, so ngl her claims of being a refugee are most likely false. I don’t fault people for wanting better economic opportunities here though

I did see some stuff about that on Wikipedia and I was surprised ngl 💀 I assumed there would be some sort of oppression of Christians

Well the cia overthrew their democratically elected left leaning government to install the shah. Iran is pretty similar to how I feel about Cuba ngl, like I don’t like their government—but I also see it as a direct revolutionary response to the brutal authoritarianism we imposed upon them for resource extraction and corporate interests in the first place. We sanction both countries to destroy their economies

Yeah pretty much all the online convert people have tended to be nuts imo. The only chill converts I’ve come across are Buddhists, Muslims, and like the Quaker/mennonite types. Had a Mennonite lab partner that had converted and just a chill dude all around
