Anyone else just give up on getting a job? I got a mechanical engineering degree and I’m cooked.I’m a civil engineer, have a full-time job already for about a year now. It’s unfortunately mostly nepotism and who you know now. Don’t take it all too personally, which is a shitty thing to say and def the point as to why the hiring process sucks I’m sure but really just keep your head up and keep grinding. I have fortunately landed a job that’ll basically never not be needed, but had to take a pay hit for working public sector. You’ll get there king keep at it
Yeah I mean I have I have no connections and had a job out of college for a couple years already. But I’m finding it’s pretty tough right now. Probably 500+ applications and maybe 3-4 interviews, some phone calls, zoom calls and one in person over 4 months. And it’s not like I have 0 experience. Let me just respawn and get the nepotism perk
Obv everybody’s situation is different, but collectively the younger guys rn are across the board struggling. Like half of my graduating class of civils specifically are either unemployed or underemployed, and by most measures were just as good of a candidate as I was when we went out for jobs. The market’s not good rn and that’s not your fault so like I said chin up. Networking might get you somewhere thru friends of yours from college who’s companies might still take on another worker 🤷♂️
I can assure you, asking a friend if their company is hiring or who’s staff could maybe point you in the right direction of a company that’s hiring is not shameful or begging it’s quite literally how people got hired in my industry like not even 20 years ago. It’s being professional about it if anything, and if you don’t ask you don’t get ig. Guy from college I knew a year younger than me just got an offer I think because of the internship I helped him get, it’s nbd really
