Well we are on the Internet right now so idk how you expect people to prove you wrong but… I’ll give it a shot. Racism against Asians seems like one of the most absurd subcategories of racism. I’m aware Asians are racist against other Asians in Asia, which seems like a thing they will sort out, but in America the only kind of Asian that seems to have a negative tinge from all the other races is Indians, which isn’t really that weird when you consider India’s caste system is basically internal1
What region of the USA are you in if you don’t mind me asking? I haven’t seen anything of that flavor in the SE states in years. Also interesting you point out Chinese and Japanese cuz that’s two of the groups I’m aware are racist against one another in Asia (likely due to the WWII atrocities + prior wars)
Well, I am in the southeast states at the moment, but I grew up on the West Coast, particularly in California. Not to mention that whole race is something is more nationalism than anything else which is why I am somehow able to get along with both the Chinese and the Japanese despite being half Chinese.
The internet is a bunch of bubbles that have isolated themselves into behavioral circles that rarely escape into reality. The studies about what this does to people’s psychology are ongoing but you’re right it does occasionally leak into reality. I keep myself grounded every time the internet makes a claim by asking myself “when’s the last time I’ve heard someone say this verbally in my travels” and “how often do I hear people saying something like this out loud?”
Like I’ve got a few family members who would be considered “leftists” of the generic variety right now, and I’m bracing myself to figure out a way, if things continue land sliding right, to explain to them it’s not really a personal fault to have slipped into the internet convincing millions of people to become out of touch with reality. Humanity wasn’t ready for a global digital hive mind that allowed anyone to say anything on the internet without being punched in the face. So a bunch 1/2
2/2 super extreme, really weird stuff took root in these bubbles, and it’s slowly dying out as they compare what’s praised on the internet vs what people in reality think out in the real world. Best I got right now is “the rapid expansion of the internet left millions of people out of touch with reality.”
Take your example of the Asian countries. Most American’s have never set foot inside these countries let alone been exposed to a city/community of these people on a daily basis. They only know what they hear on the internet. Now days, anything can be deepfaked. So it’s important to engage with people in real life. When reality doesn’t match what the internet told them, they slowly begin to reprioritize what they’ve seen with their own eyes, rather than what the internet has depicted to them via
So I think China and Japanese citizens will likely be just fine. Most American’s in person interactions with both have been pleasant enough. Indians on the other hand, it’s been a very mixed review on what American’s were willing to tolerate, so while I don’t see torches and pitch forks being grabbed any time soon, something as simple as constantly having rude and unpleasant interactions with a group of people, is enough to spark the real life hive mind of a nation to start doing things like
I should say most Chinese and Japanese citizens. I’m aware there was and still is a substantial amount of fraud/fraudulent documentation coming from China. But your average Chinese citizen doesn’t have access to it unlike India who had entire industries built around it. Chinese immigrants are mostly courteous as well. Courteous enough that most American’s don’t find them to be insufferable when interacting with them.
It’s a bit of a grift… like I understand American’s feeling “American” but there was a time recently when the idea of America was so watered down not many people could tell you what it represents. It should be “Freedom” or something like it. But it’s a fun question I like to ask people. Australia is supposed to be “Rugged Individualism” Japan is “Honor” Had a guy from Iran tell me the idea your average Iranian thinks of Iran would be “Natural Beauty” which I thought was cool. What do you 1/2
