It seems like none of the politicians really understand the issue and can’t agree on what should actually be regulated. There was like 4 new AI regulation bills introduced though

It’s a bit of a fools errand. Seems to be a propaganda tool to try to turn AI into the new potential bad guy. People fear what they don’t understand and they clearly don’t understand enough about it that they are trying to garner support for whatever reason. That or they do understand it’s most likely just going to kill the “bill gates” type people of the world, and this is some kind of plea to get everyone on board with saving them from their own hubris coming back to bite them.

There has been. States are already passing AI laws on deepfakes, discrimination, consumer protection, government use, healthcare, etc.

which one? i mean that regulation often comes *after* something bad happens like as a reaction to a situation rather than preemptively

i stand by the idea that regulation is often done retroactively here (look an even better word). ik the EU has the Al act and the changes are being applied globally. i think some also think the benefit outweighs the risk

the united states operates in a specific way: release product without any safety research, then the population faces the harm and consequences. companies get money, harm is externalized, and then no justice is had. politicians are beholden to "innovation," where you do your research on your paying customers. they are paid to be this way.

Which again, it’s a fools errand… idk what they hope to accomplish by regulating it. The cat’s already out of the bag on the Epstein island stuff. People know. I don’t trust AI a ton to even do a look up unbiased, but I trust it a heck of a lot more than bill gates. It’s really funny to me they chose him as a spokesman for AI regulation.
