As long as the age to enlist in the army and be drafted goes up with it.

Age of consent at 25 is batshit respectfully. As is not letting people under 25 vote.

Why is 18 a better choice?

There is not a perfect solution for age of consent but 25 is well into adulthood and people start having sex way earlier than that. It’s the kind of thing that would criminalize really normal stuff and tbh this reads as this weird sexual Puritanism I’ve seen recently. The voting age should be obvious. Disenfranchising voters is always a bad thing.

25 is about when the brain fully develops. I’m not looking at this through a lens of puritan ideals.

That’s a common myth that comes from a massive oversimplification of brain maturation and development. Your brain develops through the end of your life, so by that logic nobody should vote ever. We exist as adults in our societies essentially everywhere long before the age of 25. It’s on its face absurd to pretend that somebody in their mid twenties isn’t an adult. People also mature and develop at wildly different rates- this isn’t a thing where you can just slap on a number and it applies 1/2

Universally. This whole thing started as a well intentioned reminder that you don’t turn 18 and automatically know what you’re doing, and it’s spun out of hand into the ridiculous idea that people approaching 30 can’t ever be allow to make choices for themselves and are incapable of reason or rational thought. It’s silly and just existing in the world should be enough to tell you that

I’ll concede. I didn’t know the 25 thing was a myth. But I still don’t think 18 is the best choice.
