You don’t seem to understand the level of evil that we’re dealing with here. This is what ICE and Stephen Miller see when they look at non-white children:

Would you prefer we keep them in custody until we raid and kidnap their parents if they are in another country? Cuz we proved we could do it in Venezuela just… I wasn’t sure if everyone would be cool with us doing it to other people.

And Trump is fine with it because 1: they’ve pledged loyalty to him, and 2: his supporters support aggressive deportation, so it gets him attention. And the supporters don’t all have a concept of what aggressive deportation leads to, they just believe the country is suffering because of immigrants, because they’re gullible enough to believe people like Stephen Miller when they say that immigrants are the cause of all of their problems.

Not that Trump isn’t just as shitty about how he sees other people, but his is more class based than race based. Of course he is still racist. It’s just not as malevolent as that disgusting piece of shit Millers racism.

I’d prefer they have lawyers

Well I’m pretty sure we aren’t charging the children with anything criminal but I’ll look into it. It’s more of an administrative/logistical puzzle when it comes to the unaccompanied minors or trafficked minors dilemma. Or the occasional abandoned minors. Seen a few of those where the parents just dip and leave their kids.

…immigration lawyers, not criminal lawyers

The fact that immigration courts exist is part of the reason we are in this bureaucratic mess. Criminal and civil courts worked just fine before we started adding special courts for every caveat people felt emotionally charged about.

You want to deport people without due process?

I don’t mean to sound crass or abrupt when I say this, but how much “process” are you looking for when you find an unaccompanied child who isn’t a citizen of your country? You would think you would want to prioritize getting them back to their family rather than keeping them in the custody of a court system with notoriously slow processing.

And again this isn’t meant to sound funny or like I’m making a jab or anything just… what do you expect these kids are arguing in court? “Don’t send me back to my family. I need to be an orphan in America.” ???

Honestly if a kid ever said that to me and they were in my custody (I was law enforcement very briefly before returning to college) he wouldn’t need a lawyer. He’s staying here until the investigation concludes as to why he said that. What’s his or her family doing that they don’t want to be sent back to them?
