Someone forgot about the shutdown in 2019. Understaffed National Parks were damaged and trashed, some beyond repair.
There’s not gonna be a shutdown lol Every year there’s a scare, every year there’s an 11th-hour negotiation

Speaking as a former NPS employee it needs to happen unfortunately. A large part of what happened that year is the parks were left open despite not having staff, and obviously that should be avoided. At the same time, there’s been a massive problem that’s coming to a head now but existed for decades where people love the parks, but see us workers as disposable. We’ve been understaffed long before I was hired and teetering on massive collapse. Shit, no ranger who onboarded after the 80s even 1/2

I didn’t mean to sound like a smart ass. It’s just people say this every time this happens but we can’t ever say that because it’s happened before and ruins the country, and economy

Don’t worry, I understand, and you didn’t sound like one I genuinely forgot about 2019, thought the last shutdown was under Obama

Gets a pension. There’s been a lot done to keep up a facade of normalcy, mostly because we care a lot about the public we serve and don’t want them to be negatively affected, but I know a huge portion of current employees are on the same page that the public needs to see the consequences if we continue to be cut/exploited.
