How would California exist without trade? Lol. They import all their oil, they import a shit amount of computer parts and small electronics to keep Silicon Valley running, and just a lot of manufactured goods in general since the states only real valuable exports are civilian airplanes and electronics (which are built from imported goods). Besides those two things pretty much anything and everything else is imported. Trade is essential for survival.
