And yes, I’m aware that its not a criminal arrest warrant, but ordering it for 51 democrats actively trying to flee the state is a bit fucking ridiculous

They made this illegal after Dems walked out over an election bill in 2023. They could also be subject to fines of up to $500/day

They are lawmakers they are LEGALLY obligated to show up for this dumbasses

Show up and lay on the floor if you want to but don’t act like it’s ok when the people who represent the people of Texas are asked to carry their duties and refuse the responsibility that they WONT face the consequences

actually theyre representing their constituents by refusing to show up soo

actually i am one of the constituents and i am much more represented by them leaving to prevent redistricting rather than staying and giving a pointless no vote

quorum breaking is nothing new and its only a civil offense bc the texas gov got mad that dems did the same thing in 2021 and made the state supreme court rule that they could be civil arrested for it (which is so dumb bc they dont have jurisdiction outside the state but tx is all abt performative grandstanding shit so whatever)

We actually have seen this before! When Abraham Lincoln was a state legislator in Illinois, he jumped out of a window to break quorum

For the record, republicans in Oregon did the same thing in 2019 over a climate change bill. Same story with the fines, although the governor made it clear that the police weren’t supposed to actually put hands on the legislators

So by the same logic the insurrectionists are American Martyrs for the most worthy of causes…

well first of all, those were civilians jumping through windows into a building, not a legislator jumping out of one

But they were mearly using illegal tactics to halt the business of government…same as these Texas representatives you defend.

I’m not sure how to tell you that trespassing and threatening to harm lawmakers is not the same 💀

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #3 6w

They were never threatened with harm. They were simply forced to do the job they signed up for. If being arrested and taken to do the job that the people of Texas pay them (I will admit a small amount) to do is threatening harm then everyone in our justice system has a case for cruel and unusual punishment.

That is seriously the most sissy shit I have ever heard lmao which would be unsurprising coming from a politician of any kind…”oh they threatened me I was so scared”

They aren’t representing you. They are preventing everyone from representing anyone.

There are many many differences in the situation but there are some similarities which is what I was pointing out. The overarching goal of preventing the continuation of the current business of government is there in both cases.

There was a Senator from Oregon who, in 1988, was carried into the chamber feet first to vote on a campaign finance bill at 1:17 AM. This shit happens.

i mean theyre preventing something that would actively go against their constituents interests they represent their district not the entire state

So if someone prevented the continuation of government in a different government building (I will not elaborate further), that would be the same as Texas legislators denying a quorum? This logic makes no sense

i fully expect them to bend the knee after they sufficiently fundraise off of it but this whole situation is stupid as hell

Now they can possibly be removed from office which I’m sure their advisors let them know before they decided to pull this stunt. They know that they have two options. Show up in any capacity as they are legally obligated to do and the vote moves forward with a likely loss. Leave the state get arrested and make a scene for the media to spin out of control, the enviable still happens but now I’m not a failure I’m a victim. Works out better for them but worse for everyone being represented by these

Yes that’s how they want you to feel is my point. If they show up or not same result except this way they can wag the finger at leadership for arresting them and make themselves the victims instead of recognizing the reality that the fact they even made it to this point is a failure of their constituents.

I can’t find it, but depictions of his assassination usually show John Wilkes Booth jumping off the balcony at the theater! Lots of jumping from things in Lincoln’s life
