Genuinely so tired of having to hear about what the Bible says in political contexts. Your religion shouldn’t hold any weight in passing legislation. Government and religion should be entirely separate.

i looooooove when that happens bc it just verifies that they get all their morals from a book with child sex slavery and infanticide. which is usually met with some “oh old testament isn’t legit anymore” and that further proves they haven’t even READ the bible… 😂

Well, people's beliefs are going to inform their morality and their politics. But no we shouldn't use any one sect's unique or parochial religious views as the basis for public policy affecting everyone. I think Habermas says you the person needs a medium of translation, like, when you enter the public square you need to be able to articulate your moral convictions in terms that are universally applicable.

The 10 commandments of every major abrahamic religion are the foundation of civil stability. If you want to live in a place that disregards them, go there, see how “civil” people are.

why do you need religion to teach you morality? do you need a man in the sky to tell you killing people for being gay and stoning women to death is wrong?

it makes zero sense to legislate anything on the basis of “ensuring moral purity”. public safety, sure, but not on moral purity. amphetamines, for instance, should be illegal. not because they’re “ungodly” but because they’re not safe for just anybody to take, you need to have a good reason.

China, Korea, Japan, are all pretty fucking developed and quite civil compared to us. There’s been minimal influence of Christianity on Eastern Asia compared to the rest of the world. You’re just a xenophobic racist actually.

fucking preach. i understand regulating recreational marijuana, that makes perfect sense. i don’t want kids smoking kush in the same way i wouldn’t want them drinking. outright banning it literally only makes people, especially impressionable young children, desire it more. BARE MINIMUM it should be federally legal for medical purposes.

Agreed. I’m moreso referring to the fact that THC levels in weed have risen astronomically since its popularization in the 60s, and even what our parents were smoking in the 80s and 90s. It’s the same effect prohibition had, turning beer drinkers to moonshine and hard liquor because it was easier to hide store and ship for the same level of intoxication.

Anybody who claims to know God’s will is wrong. Conservatives claim that their policies are God’s will, just like monarchists and feudalists and islamic fundamentalists. People who believe that religion is a sound basis for policy ought to look over the history of the 30 years war.

Peasants’ homes burnt to the ground for fear of heretics hiding in their villages. Would a loving God - who backed the policies of a people He has claimed as his own - ever visit the plague upon that people?

Holy bro😭😭. No I’ve never met a young earth creationist chill tf out. While yes, lots of people pre 10 commandments saw issue with murder, since its ban it’s been so heavily reinforced in Christian nations for almost 2000 years, this is especially apparent in western society. Also literally every single Christian knows the 10 commandments are from Moses, which is centuries prior, idk why you’re making random assumptions
