I think we should have gun rights but our laws concerning ownership and getting them should be stricter. I think Japan has a decent process where they require character letters before people can get a firearm

Hmm. I don’t know. We make people go through years of tests and training to get cars. Their license can get revoked for using them unsafely. People can get a license denied if they’re found unfit to drive. None of these things apply universally to guns. Also, it’s comparing apples to oranges. When mass stabbings become a daily occurrence, maybe we’ll reevaluate. But clearly there’s a distinction. You can’t kill a dozen people in a few seconds with a knife. You can with a gun.
