I don’t get why Republicans don’t want trans people in the military, like “How dare these people I hate die painful deaths in trenches for me”

I think it’s cause they don’t want us to have glory. Cause they glorify the military so much that even if we die painful deaths we’ll still get talked about favorably and get medals posthumously and stuff. They want us to die painfully but in ways that make us seem disgusting and pathetic. Rather than virtuous and selfless.

Republicans don’t want trans people in the military because they care about their lives and don’t want to risk them in combat ❤️

Basically they see us as roaches to be squashed not soldiers to be heralded. And it’s just another way to dehumanize us and treat us like criminals for existing. Frankly you aren’t gonna see me weeping over my draft registration being basically nullified. But it doesnt have fun motivations or implications. Also I don’t think they want us trained to defend ourselves either. They want to murder every last one of us easily like you would fumigate bugs. Not have us form our own self defense forces.

I mean they learned that lesson in the civil rights movement I think. I highly doubt they wanna give us the tools to make a transgender version of the black panthers or smth.

^^^ I also think that part of this is ingrained with the idea that patriotism is exclusive with a certain identity and ideology rather than the expression of patriotism or nationalism itself; the belief of someone being un-American because they are LGBTQ, an immigrant, progressive, Muslim, etc. leads many to believe that these groups are unworthy of representing, expressing, or benefitting from what patriotism may bring. I think you make a great point.

And these rigid values lead for many to believe that being American has a certain embodiment too, and anyone who deviates from that is less/not patriotic or a threat to national security and integrity, despite the fact that patriotism is much more broad than just one specific belief or identity.
