if being gay is a sin, why can’t gay people just pray for forgiveness like you can do for any other sin?

Praying for forgiveness is also a resolution to stop doing the thing you’re praying for forgiveness for. So being gay isn’t really a sin as it’s a state of being, rather than an action, and you can’t pray for forgiveness for it because you can’t stop being it.

Now you can repent for gay lust, or gay infidelity, but this is not its own special category of sin but is rather just the same lust and infidelity that a straight person might manifest, put into practice by a gay person.
