Unpopular opinion: women are objectively better cops currently because they excel at the most important thing in police work. Deescalating. The strength difference doesn’t matter anywhere near as much as people assume.

Because women are better at deescalating, they are: less likely to be killed on the job, less likely to resort to deadly force, less likely to be in physical altercations, and are less likely to have complaints written up about them (internally or externally)

Probably true but anecdotally the biggest asshole cops I’ve ever met are women. It’s like they’re trying to prove they can do the job by projecting how they feel male cops act, like an ass, despite the men being super chill. However one of the nicest most supportive officer I’ve interacted with was a woman, but she’s been promoted to a trainer now bc of her amazing ability to serve the community Cool dude cops I’ve interacted with: 19/20 Cool chick cops I’ve interacted with: 1/12

i think police forces should have a dedicated group of people who are knowledgeable in how to speak to people who are clearly mentally unwell. they should also have a LOT of training for those not in that group about mental health and signs of someone who is having a break, so they can call in that dedicated group and do their best to help that person before the group gets there. there are definitely a lot of cases where people get harmed because the cops don’t know how to react to someone who

Mhmmm, so if you’re a petite 5 foot 3 inch woman and an aggressive 6 foot 3 man is yelling at them do you think there risk tolerance is higher or lower than a male cop of a similar size? I mean you can’t make this shit up

What do you mean? Like people on the street or people within the police station itself (or both)?

When I say “less likely” I mean per capita because obviously there are less women on the force than men

is clearly having a severe mental episode. women are generally better at de-escalation but if they adopted my idea, then everyone can at least be significantly better in this one aspect

They do, though typically theyre considered negotiators so they’re called to most high stress situations. But I agree we could also greatly improve general training for all officer to include “mental health first aid” for emergent situations until specialists are made available (esp bc you never know what calls can end up involving mental health. Example you’re called out to a b&e and turns out the person is in the throes of psychosis and genuinely doesn’t know they’re committing a crime)

That’s a good point! Women very often have to deescalate things for their own safety since they were children and learn to avoid angering men whereas other men would fight with each other because they don’t see it as as risky.
