I think I see the point here, but most of the cost of incarceration comes from paying the prison staff (and their CEOs!). If you take that out, you’re still left with a cost that’s much more than the income for someone making minimum wage (assuming 40 hr/week) though

Yeah and there’s also considerations about facilities to be fair, but in many ways it’s still significantly more “efficient” with bulk food purchase and utilities and such than any typical person could realistically live, so I think the point still solidly stands. And it’s about where our values and priorities are as much as anything
