One of the funniest bits of being American is you get to live under socialism if you rake in a million a year and have moderate connections to the political realm.
Moving to a state with lower taxes is one of the scummiest and most privileged things that’s somehow seen as completely socially acceptable.

I mean you can literally lobby a city council with under $20,000 to get millions in public investment and tax breaks for your corporation, and it will just not help the local economy at all. Like sure you brought 50 new jobs at your headquarters, but you got effectively $25 million in public investment and the highest paid employee makes 60k. In gross income thats like $2 million, net probably $1.5, and you deduct all the horseshit bills corporate vampires suck out for insurance and rent,

the community sees maybe $500k of that investment come back per year. That might not even cover what the community lets go in tax breaks. And it costs pocket change to get these laws made. Centralize the economy and plan the production of necessary goods in advance and this is never an issue, because communities would negotiate and collaborate with each other for support rather than a race to ride a corporate dick.
