the sydney sweeney debate is alr so tiring. like if you find it tasteless that’s absolutely fine. but as someone who is “left” aligned bc of ideals, some leftists are making me realize they’re no diff than those who analyze stupid media so intensely for

You don’t have to analyze it very intensely to notice the dogwhistle

hidden symbols and shit for things like the devil bc it’s deemed progressive so then it’s evil. like god pls for the sake of your mental wellbeing pls just leave the internet for like a week. see beauty in nature and real life with humans that are actually around you or something. breathe. not everything is an attack no matter what “side” you’re one. like im genuinely getting so worried for our world, but our country too. we do have real issues. i promise this is not the one

I just don’t care tbh. It’s a stupid ad but we have more important things going on than a stupid ad.

I agree OP. I see most of the outrage (not all obv) as people projecting their insecurities and upset that an ad made them feel like less of a human. Which like, given the nature of the ad is a totally valid emotional response, but it’s not like it’s going around promoting anything bad to anyone at all.

no you are very clearly so used to everything that is happening online. like yes in the real world, but especially how we DO have this type of discourse online. to the point that good genes for an attractive woman and wordplay for the word jeans is not a dogwhistle. most of the good genes is literally referencing her breasts bc that’s what’s she’s “known” for. they sell blue jeans. it’s literally just wordplay using a controversial but insanely currently popular actress

tbh it reminds me of the lil nas x montero era. it was obviously a setting based in hell, but it was a metaphor for his experience in life. ppl took it literally and started going insane over this worship of the devil. you are taking something so literally, then you twist it into the crazy theory that it is. she’s a pretty woman known for her boobs. her good genes, her “blue” genes, her eyes, reference boobs. and ofc the jeans/genes wordplay. it’s “deeper” but not a literal nazi ad

Besides the fact that I was getting constant psychological help, being in the psych ward was so deeply refreshing and healing for me because I had no choice but to be completely disconnected from the online world. Now I have designated weekends every now and then where I’ll put my phone in a drawer if I don’t need it for something like navigation.

Like I probably have some of the most fucked up genes on this community, I no joke should’ve been dead 6 times at least by now if not for modern medicine, and that’s just counting shit that I had absolutely no control over. But I’m not offended by that. Also - people say “you have great genes” all the time. Eg: I have terrible genes for building muscle in general, but some people have really good calf muscle form, or pec muscle, ab muscle, bicep muscle, etc etc.

Working out can help you build muscle, but your genes dictate the form the muscle takes. Acknowledgment of that isn’t inherently saying you’re less of a person for not having those genes. They’re exceptional (the exception) for a reason.

i hope you are healing well and i’m happy to hear it has benefited you! definitely not the same, but i experienced a lotttt of burnout lately and just haven’t been motivated to go on my phone for social media besides here sometimes and to look at instagram for memes. i didn’t even know what this discourse was and was so confused. i used to be very terminally online and angry from stupid things myself. the fact that i can see things now with a clearer mindset rlly helps. and getting off of this

stuff DOES clear your mind from being so caught up in all of this. news surrounding our world/country is important, yes, but sometimes genuinely not this important bc i actually feel like this is what has made everything even worse. this discourse that turns into like this insanity of everything. it just builds and builds

yeah definitely have better things to focus on. but i think it shows us humans were truly never supposed to connect this intensely maybe….not that it isn’t amazing in different ways. but humans have lots of group think and with our culture in media/entertainment and politics along with the use of global social apps….its kind of turned us into a shit show. but we are here. we have to learn to make it better. we need ppl to seriously actually get off their phones (not in a boomer way)

yes exactly. sydney is honestly pretty. ppl definitely have insecurities that can trigger an emotional response, which is valid. not saying oh it’s just a bunch of insecure ppl hating a beautiful woman. but it’s a legitimately possible scenario as someone who’s dealt and still deals with many insecurities! it happens! but there are so many different and better ways to cope with this outside of making it into a full scale phenomenon of some deeper, more sinister meaning to chalk up why they would

use a pretty (and insanely currently relevant!) woman for their campaign and assign the (actually very common. ) slogan of wordplay being genes/jeans to her. ppl are so wrapped up in everything culture arguments and deep insight into how they’re actually promoting this specific idea or concept. like don’t get me wrong i’ll have my own profound ideas on the world. but i just observe things around me and think and maybe write in my notes app. bc there is stuff to think abt of this world. but maybe

how we currently go about it online where millions and millions can share each single side and let the intensity grow is only going to lead us somewhere even darker than we might think. and i’m so sorry and im so glad you’re here! and yeah ppl say great genes for everything. and it’s a very exhausted thing to be like “you got good jeans” ☺️ but mean genes haha. or for jeans companies to do the opposite! theres companies NAMED great genes! also i think my dumbass stupid brain finally realized

what the phrase “you’re cute jeans” meant after all my life bahahah off topic. but for some reason i just never understood. but yeah it’s a common thing. i regularly get told abt “good genes” simply bc my family ages well. but we secretly have absolute shit genes and im wracked with mental and some physical issues bc of it hahahahw

they don’t, actually. they said something abt a very basic scientific definition on genetics like genes come from parents like hair, personality, eyes blah blah. it was just supposed to segway into the genes/jeans bit. also it’s supposedly a tribute to a highly controversial, but successful jeans campaign back in the 80s that had a young actress, like maybe 15, giving a scientific explanation of genes before talking abt jeans. not exactly sure if it is or not but i think. but anyway it’s not

saying anything abt some white supremacist ideal. its just a corny way they did their commercial with a hot woman. i mean they have blue jeans so it makes sense to have a popular actress with blue eyes so they can make that innuendo abt her eyes being her boobs everyone comments on lol. i mean they literally pan to her boobs in one commercial and says “hey my eyes are up here!” it’s just like if you’ve ever heard “you have nice eyes ;)” but they mean boobs lol. and yeah ppl need to breathe

Unfortunately I work in the news so I have to be up to date on everything for that, but the weekend breaks have helped me tremendously. It’s going so well that I genuinely didn’t know about the first Trump assassination attempt until a couple days after it happened 💀

i mean that’s especially good that you give yourself a break!!! i can honestly personally find keeping up with the news while still going on with my life at the same time veryyyy tiring lol. like i said, it’s important stuff and ik that, but honestly besides the first few months of the year i rlly haven’t kept up with anything at all bc i have extreme burnout from school, changing environments again, and just my overall life back at home esp due to my work schedule. i keep seeing memes abt 2025
