Demonstrably all of the above. This isn’t even like some “their wars should count as terrorism” stuff they sponsored like actual terrorist attacks like Operation Susannah

Women’s rights are actively backsliding under Likud and Likud opposes gay rights. And being better on some social issues doesn’t justify genocide, despite attempts to pretend such.

“Better on some social issues.” And it’s simply not stoning gays to death or pushing women off roofs

Beirut has a pride parade (you know where Israel bombs) and Jordan decriminalized gay sex 37 years before Israel did. And Israel does kill women and gay people all the time, so long as they are Palestinian.

It is exceedingly common for settler colonial states to hold up their progress and equality as a justification for their settler colonial actions. Of course, that prosperity does not extend to the indigenous people they are massacring. They don’t get to enjoy it.

You are proving people’s point. The bar is so low, and yet it is used by you to justify genocide. You know how a society gets better for women and LGBTQ+ people? By being able to develop on its own economically and learn from its own mistakes — like how Israel has been able to do, with the Western world’s support for the past few decades. War does the exact opposite and will only perpetuate the cycle of violence.

This is also a common tactic to use to try to quell colonial dissent. France persecuted Algerians and denied them rights for a century. And when Algerians were finally fed up with it, France tried espousing feminism as a virtue of colonial rule. Of course they didn’t actually see Algerian women as equal, because they were Algerian.

And Israel’s actions actively make it worse for queer people and women beyond y’know bombing them. Israeli atrocities and aggression radicalizes young men into fundamentalist militias. AND when gay and women’s rights are held up as the virtue of the oppressive state, people will start to see their local feminists or queer people as associates of said oppressive state. Plus the IDF blackmails gay Palestinians into being informants, causing them to be distrusted and suspected of being traitors.

Not justifying anything. Just stating you can criticize Israel while also recognizing without it there would be no place in the Middle East for women or LGBTQ to take refuge. Yes hate crimes still happen. They happen in all western countries. Doesn’t change the fact most Palestinians would throw me off a building and most Israelis wouldn’t care.

Women and lgbtq people from other countries can’t take refuge in Israel if they aren’t Jewish. Israel doesn’t allow immigration of non-Jews from nearby countries. They’re just stuck outside Israel and might start getting bombed by Israel instead.

As a trans woman genuinely fuck you for trying to use the LGBTQ community to justify crimes against humanity. Don’t use us like props to justify/pinkwash a settler colonial apartheid state, it is dehumanizing and gross

So why aren’t we focusing on that then? Why aren’t we focusing on the countless Islamic nations that terrorize and murder their own people? Selective outrage.

Have you actually been to Israel? I recommend going if you really think it is just “pink washing”. Also never claimed to use the community to justify “crimes against humanity”. Maybe take a second to reflect on who you’re actually fighting for. There is no logical reason why someone in the lgbtq community would support someone who want them dead.

I do. But we were talking about Israel murdering Palestinians with my tax dollars. You can’t go “oh yeah well what about North Korea” in a conversation about the democratic backsliding of Poland or some shit. We weren’t fucking talking about North Korea that’s a completely different conversation.

Hi. I’m bisexual. I’m actually within the lgbtq community. I think no one should be genocided. I don’t care if they’re homophobic or not. I think people with bad opinions deserve to live, especially if said opinions are mostly due to their cultural upbringing. I don’t ask a child if they support me before I decide whether they deserve not to be bombed. You can fuck right off with trying to use me and those like me to justify ethnic cleansing.

So you admit, ethnic cleansing and genocide is not the same thing? I don’t support anyone being bombed. But I’m definitely going to the support the side who is simply trying to exist and defend themselves, the side who cares about its citizens. The side who wouldn’t want me killed. Doesn’t seem like a hot take.

Because It’s hard enough for women and LGBTQ+ people to survive without Israel carpet bombing them. Not selective outrage, but having our priorities straight. Similar to how pointing out white privilege does not equate saying that some white people has not suffered other misfortunes, all it says is that being white does not one’s life even harder; here, all we are saying is that Israel is making it even harder for minorities to survive. Societal changes can only happen after the genocide stops.

You’re acting as if Israel is bombing people Willy nilly for no reason. Why do you think Israel is bombing hospitals? Is it because they hate Palestinians? No it’s because Hamas built underground tunnels to shelter terrorists and use schools as military objectives to launch missiles out of. What do you expect Israel to do? Sit idly by as their citizens are murdered and their state destroyed?

The line between them is blurry. I believe Israel is committing genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank. Hey did Israel live and let live when it shot Gazans for protesting in 2018? Did Israel live and let live when it funded the rise of Hamas to destabilize the PA? Does Israel care about its citizens when it lets them get killed by Hamas despite Egyptian warnings? When it refused hostage deals? When it put the Mizrahim in squalid camps decades ago?

This self defense shit is such a fucking lie. You know why? Israel is actively colonizing the West Bank. There’s no fucking war justification there to excuse their atrocities. Razing Palestinian neighborhoods for Israeli condos isn’t some wartime justification. It’s just ethnic cleansing.

While we are at it, I’m big on Turkish history too. You know what this fucking travesty is? It’s the Iğdır Genocide Memorial and Museum. It’s a monument to all the Turks that Turkey claims were genocided by Armenians. That’s right. The Turkish government claims the Armenian genocide was simply self defense against Armenian terrorists

I think I see the disconnect here. I’d do some more reading into the history of the land of Israel and the Middle East as a a whole. How the current population got to where they were today, the genetic makeup, the countless pushing out of Jews. 20% of Israelis are Arab CITIZENS. There is no apartheid. If your hatred of Jews and Israel is so strong that you label every injustice and “apartheid” and “genocide” simply because of the state it originated from, I see no point in continuing this.

This might be news to you, but Israel has been bombing people “willy nilly for no reason”. On top of that, they have been bombing and killing journalists on purpose. You might have been raised in (or surrounded by) a community drenched in propaganda if you only ever heard otherwise. Palestinian civilians are “the side who is simply trying to exist”. Hamas does not represent all Palestinian lives.

Yeah. Arab Israelis are citizens. The Coloureds were citizens of apartheid South Africa. Both faced systemic oppression and politically marginalization by ethnic supremacist states. I personally don’t think the apartheid is within Israel itself (so I actually disagree with Hendrik Verwoerd slightly). It’s within the West Bank. The West Bank is where the apartheid is.

I don’t think you have any idea how much I read about this shit. Have you read Iron Wall? Der Judenstaat? I am exceedingly familiar with the history of Zionism as it is a strong academic interest of mine. Jewish diasporic history is actually a passion of mine, as is the history of settler colonialism. I could go on about this all day. Because I actually care about having informed opinions.

What truly infuriates and disgusts me is how you and those like you try to dismiss any criticism of Israel as coming from bigotry or ignorance. I know more about Israeli and Jewish history than you. That is why I oppose the actions of the Israeli government so much. I know what it has done and what it continues to do. But you can’t accept those who disagree with you as intellectual equals. You need to demonize or infantilize them.
