they will probably argue that the snap recipients are the democrats who live there

snap is meant for assistance, not reliance. A safety net shouldn’t act as a hammock.

if someone could survive solely on the pittance that SNAP provides I’d applaud them tbh. It tops out at $298 per person - with grocery prices the way they are that’s not really much

Yes but for one person, that’s way more than I spend on myself! Also, its just ONE person. Many of them have kids. a family of four can receive up to $994 a month, and a family of eight can receive up to $1,789. Thats fucking insane…

buddy that’s literally the exact amount the usda reports as a “thrifty food plan” for a family of four

You’re not understanding that im talking about the people who abuse the system and receive these benefits have enough money to afford cosmetics and somehow use a good portion of their snap budget for junk food. “Thrifty food plan my ass” I see this shit all the time

so what? literally so what? every system like this is going to have people who “abuse” it. they are eligible for SNAP they can buy whatever food they want. junk food is often less expensive than healthy food and not everyone has the capability to cook or access to a kitchen. at the end of the day it’s none of your business. if you were eligible for SNAP would want someone all up in your face telling you what you can and cannot buy?

If i was eligible for SNAP id use it to buy actual fucking groceries and not junk food you nincompoop. so what you ask? Idk its my tax dollars funding these freeloaders who are encouraged to stay unemployed and be given handouts. There shouldnt be a system like this if its so widely abused in the first place. There needs to be a rework to this system cause it clearly just keeps people impoverished relying on the government…

dude that’s like saying you don’t drive so you shouldn’t have to pay taxes for roads or saying you’re not in grade school anymore so you shouldn’t have to pay for taxes that go to schools. that’s not how taxes fucking work you don’t get to pick and choose where your taxes go. a majority of our federal taxes go to healthcare, social security, and the fucking military but you wanna bitch about someone using SNAP for junk food?

#1, are you sure your food budget is way less than that? Bc like I shop sales and everything and still would have a hard time meeting that kind of budget. also gotta factor in that if you’re eating out or on a meal plan or eating with your family often your grocery budget won’t reflect your actual food costs

caveat - hard time meeting that budget while also getting nutrition. If I just ate rice and beans I could probably spend less. but I think everyone is entitled to a *healthy* diet

Yes. I also cook everything and i am from a culture where we dont waste food. So i guess most people dont have the skills to do that?

I just hate freeloaders. We pay stupid amounts of taxes that go straight to these big backs.

im with you on hating freeloaders but I think the vast majority of freeloaded money from the US taxpayer is in the form of corporate tax breaks and subsidies

like if Tesla can afford to pay out $1 trillion to Elon, why is the US govt paying them a cent of my money?

in comparison, someone spending 10 bucks a month on Doritos they didn’t need isn’t really a big deal.

food assistance has one of the smallest fraud rates of government assistance programs & a very small amount of your taxes goes towards that. you should focus your anger towards corporate tax breaks, wage stagnation, or unaffordable housing and spend less time trying to make poor people the scapegoat. you’re mad at the bottom when you should be mad at the top. at the end of the day i don’t care what they spend their SNAP on as long as children are being fed.
