Eh the rhetoric speaks for itself. The only thing more guns will do is pad the pockets of weapons producers and drive up fatal shootings. And maybe make some people feel secure cause they get to carry a gun around and maybe shoot someone over road rage

Because gang violence will just stop because guns are illegal? Okay guys crime is illegal time to go home. I think you look at too much median

Really not trying to be condescending here but please look into any gun violence studies that have been done on the subject. You’ll be hard pressed to find one that finds a negative correlation between gun ownership and fatal shootings

Lots of first world countries have gangs and crime, interesting how none of them have anywhere near the amount of fatal shootings that we do

Close to half of all gun deaths are suicides. Another large portion of that is gang violence. Smaller parts include self defense and police shootings. Occasionally accidents occur. People just shooting someone isn’t a common death. If we didn’t gang violence to gun deaths we would have some of the lowest gun deaths in the world. Gang violence is the number one issue with firearms and those guys are criminals. They don’t exactly care for the law

Do you have a source for that figure on gang violence?

Also accidents far outnumber self defense

But regardless, take a look at the biggest chunk there, the suicides. The majority of those people would be alive if they didn’t have easy access to a gun. Suicidal ideation is something that passes, having lots of guns around at all times means that people who suffer from suicidal ideation often don’t survive long enough to let the feeling pass.

I don’t want to do a whole bibliography because there is no X amount is from gang violence. Roughly 50 percent of gun deaths are suicide after that is homicide. A majority of homicides are done with firearms especially within gangs and roughly 15% of all homicides are from gangs. More than 50% in cities where gun violence is the worst. So say conservatively that leaves 30% as other related gun deaths are just murder no gang no self defense no law. That’s roughly 12k people a year in the us.

Tons more die a year because they can’t stop stuffing their faces with junk food. I feel like guns are such a non issue in death statistics that they shouldn’t even be controversial politically in the first place and we should even lift some bans. I think firearm ownership is a net good thing in society and I’m willing to accept that people will die because of them just like they do because of cars, cheese burgers, etc

Well this is why we base policy on scientific studies, not feelings or guesses. If you don’t have a source (no bibliography needed) then you’re just throwing shit at the wall

What do you want? You have to extrapolate data from statistics not everyone needs to be spoonfed information because they are incapable of doing their own research. Research isn’t just looking at a number and saying end of story. I don’t want to sit here and give you 8 different sources I used to gather my data. If you are honestly incapable of looking through data and learning from it then you have no ability to freely think.

I would like a source from where you got the information. This is not a big ask. You claimed that a large portion of gun deaths are due to gang violence. That’s a fact that must be derived from data. What data did you look at? What was the study? You either made it up or you read it somewhere. If you read it, I’d like to know where.

Anyone making an argument, whether in a casual debate or in academia is expected to back up their claims with facts. If someone is extremely defensive when asked to back up their claim, it usually means that their claim isn’t based on sound reasoning or reliable facts
