Just out of pure curiosity for what people will say, why did Kamala and Walz lose the election to Trump and JD?

Short Campaign + poorly ran campaign + failure to separate herself from the Biden administration (this includes Palestine, and a lot more) are the 3 biggest things imo

All the things above and also that most Americans have the memory of a goldfish, have no idea how the economy works, and are extraordinarily susceptible to right wing propaganda.

Poor messaging, not enough focus on the economy

Even if Harris ran a perfect campaign (at least, as perfect as a neoliberal campaign can be) it would’ve been hard to beat Trump. Biden dug such a big hole for the Dems in 2024 that prime FDR would’ve had a tough time getting the win.

I do remember her saying that she wouldn’t change a thing about the Biden admin. Kinda a toss up question if you ask me.

Didn’t she do a fashion show for her campaign or something?

Was not an official Kamala event apparently but some supporters. Idk I just remember there being weird signs and pictures.

How are Americans extraordinarily susceptible to right wing propaganda?

left wing/progressive messaging inherently requires unpacking the problems/failures of the status quo, whereas right wing/conservative commentary amounts to “it used to be better” and “it’s brown people’s fault”. When you have a short attention span, aren’t well educated, or lack critical thinking skills, conservative messaging is much more comprehensible/palatable.

But this doesn’t explain how Kamala dropped in almost all demographics where Biden had succeeded the election before. Even in communities that historically lean blue.

While I don’t disagree that it is an easier rhetoric for some to get behind, I think it’s disingenuous to say it’s because ALL of these people are uneducated and can’t look things up.

The majority of voters fell for numerous extremely well documented lies by the Trump campaign (claiming he was good for the economy, that he was good for peace, and various lies and fearmongering about immigrants). They fell for disinformation about USAID and social services fraud and they falsely believed Trump wanted the Epstein files released. Many Gen Z men further fell for anti-woke fearmongering by internet commentators like Rogan.

You can still put left wing messaging into bite-size phrases, but it’s hard to get the wording to sound right, be palatable, and actually point towards something specific. “Freeze the rent” and “make buses fast and free” were good though

I mean it kind of does, when you note that her whole campaign attempted to appeal to the ‘undecided conservative voter’ by moving right on like all the major issues. conservative propaganda has outsized influence, and the harris campaign didn’t do enough to rebut/counterattack that messaging with their base, which resulted in poor performance.

But I think the base lie that convinced most voters was the belief that Trump would be good for the economy. I think that’s what caused most voters to switch. That was an incorrect belief then if you looked at his economic record, and it’s even more blatantly untrue now.

The loss across demographics may be explained by the fact people felt Trump was better for the economy

I think mamdani is kind of a poor example here, because of the candidates he ran against. Sliwa was a nut job (love him for it) and cuomo was a known sexual abuser, which significantly bolstered mamdani’s chances. I don’t think mamdani wins if NYC dems put forward a competent candidate instead of cuomo, and i say this as a Mamdani supporter.

No I definitely agree. I just liked that he had slogans that stuck in people’s heads. If Cuomo tried, idk if Mamdani would have won

Anyone running for a public office can say one thing and do another. The DNC said Biden was mentally fit to be president when it was obvious he wasn’t, and said he would be a transitional president but kept him in the race. I agree with you about his lying but saying either side are liars will just make the argument go in circles.

Harris had a strong economic plan that arguably was far better than anything the trump campaign had to offer. Trump was allowed to campaign on personal merits, while Harris’ concrete, actionable plans were ignored.

Kamala didn’t have much of a campaign though. She didn’t start till after the first presidential debate, the DNC held no primary, tbh she was screwed from the start.

I agree. The problem was that it wasn’t easy to remember and didn’t stick in anyone’s heads. It seems like people need mnemonics. “No tax on tips” etc. I fucking saw people legitimately cite “drill baby drill” as a policy 😭

I mean yeah, Biden fucked her over by trying to run again, and she should’ve ran against him imo.

The DNC wouldn’t have let that happen. They boasted for years that Biden was mentally fit, it doesn’t look good if they didn’t let him run or if his VP immediately ran against him.

bullshit. he totally could have made a statement about wanting to spend more time with his family and not running again. if i remember correctly, he said from the get-go that he didn’t want to do a second term
