Interesting how you used the word “him” when describing this man. I personally don’t think about other people’s genitalia that much, but I would say he is much more fit to walk into the men’s restroom than the women’s. If I saw a dude like this enter the women’s restroom I would be creeped tf out
That actually further affirms what I was saying. Men does not inherently=penis and woman does not inherently=vagina. Gender neutral bathrooms were created to 1.) Accommodate families 2.) Accommodate disabilities 3.) To accommodate those who do not align with men or women or do not wish to use one of those particular bathrooms
Male and female have been used in biological circles for centuries to refer to sex. Men and women is an informal way of referring to gender. Bathrooms are gendered not sexed because if we were to “sex” every single bathroom people who do not fit the rigid standard definition for male as a sex would have nowhere to go shit or piss. Further there would not be a way that is reliable and ethical to assess what sex somebody is. Which is why we use gender NOT sex.
Also, with the advancement of research and an understanding of humans as a complex biological and social being, these terms have been differentiated since I think around the 1950s when there was a lot of scientific innovation. Of course we do not intermingle these terms together because we have a better understanding of them. As science progresses, terminology progresses.
Here’s another way of looking at it. If I removed your genitalia, would you still refer to yourself as being a man? Would you still refer to yourself as being a male? Transgender people view themselves, socially as whatever they present as. Their biological condition does not align directly with the social factors. Which is why many transgender people alter their genitalia. My point here being that genitalia is not a sole factor in determining both gender and sex for you nor other people.
