I’m still waiting on the day we abolish slavery. INCARCERATION SHOULD NEVER MEAN SLAVERY IS FUCKING OKAY! We knew why they put that loophole there in the first place America will never be free of slavery until we abolish for profit prisons

Prisons weren’t for profit when it was added rather prisons had to be self sufficient. Ie prisoners had to pay for their own food, clothes, beds etc. slavery cause was so prisons operating could run while little state funding. Now the loophole allows for profit prisons to take advantage of using people as slaves while also getting government money

They can also contract out living people and they can make a profit off of selling their labor for free or giving them like six cents on their 100s if not 1000s of dollars in profits. Did you know incarcerated people have been used as disposables to go fight our forest fires?

Yup, a majority of school supplies and other cheap/government tables/chairs/desks/other is made in prisons on “salaries” of like $400 a year for these prisoners. While prisons are making billions off their indentured servitude 💀

Additionally prisons often profit police chiefs/ managers as they can cut fund for things like food and take the remaining money for them selves legally. In my state Alabama this is quite common.
