I do hope Sliwa gets to be part of the Mamdani administration somehow. He does have some value and it’s clear he KNOWS New York so well. Still a Crazy crank obviously , not good for mayor. But yeah

He gave a 959 million dollar subsidy to a solar panel company owned by the Musk family and then they didn’t build shit, 10 people got indicted with bid-rigging charges in 2016, and it’s largely understood Elon just pocketed a lot of that money

The cost of free buses would be higher than that every year. The math doesn’t work out

He doesn’t. He also doesn’t even have the authority to make changes. The bus system is run by the state government.

he does. the ny bus system is ran by the metropolitan transportation authority, it’s a public authority that is government owned and separate from the state of ny. its governed by a board of directors appointed by the governor and mayor of nyc

The Mayor can appoint 4 members of the 17 person board. All the control and decision making power is in Albany.

estimated cost is 700 million actually

That estimate doesn’t account for increased ridership

“Clueless but present” is such an eloquently concise way to phrase it.

That’s a good thing btw, it takes only 3 riders to make a bus ride cause less traffic, emissions, etc. than a car. And yes hopefully it can be faster since boarding is way faster- you can use the middle door to board, no lines to get into the bus. Just get in and go

People with more time and money than u have tried to poke holes in this budget plan and it’s quite solid actually

I understand all the arguments against the rent freeze.. it could theoretically discourage new apartment building, discourage landlords from maintaining stuff… but it is quite literally directly helping the like 2 million New Yorkers in stabilized apartment . So I think that’s an okay short term solution. Obviously cost will go up which is why it’s a “freeze” not a “rent cap”

Also skeptical of the grocery stores tbh - free Fast Buses = Good - adding more legislation for landlord = good - fast tracking permits for affordable housing = good - free child care = good

You’re assuming people who ride buses would have driven a car instead. Its far more likely that they would have walked.
