Believing a 2000 year old myth about a dead Jewish man rising from the dead, who is also god, is moronic. Iâm not going to pretend to respect that idea simply because itâs popular, the same way I donât respect the ridiculous claim that the earth is flat, or that vaccines cause autism.
I donât accept the other claims either, I simply point out the fact that Jesus Christ, son of God or not, was a real person who preached radical love and acceptance which is worth fighting for irregardless of his divinity. I may believe Christ to be divine, but that doesnât give you the right to discriminate lol. I just simply donât think the entire universe appeared one day with no real cause.
Its thinly veiled insecurity is what it is. You feel youâre an intellectual by denying divinity because it lets you view a majority of the populace as scared sheep and yourself as a stoic outsider who is above the petty daily dealings of others. Thatâs okay, but letâs be honest about the projection here.
This may shock you, but atheists donât actually think the universe appeared without a cause đ€Ż, just that the cause is naturalistic and material, rather than an omnipotent being from aincient Canaan. Also I never said I support discrimination against you, just that I donât respect your beliefs đ„°
That is a form of discrimination. Nobody makes you agree but blatant disrespect due to the way someone worships is still discrimination. Care to explain how something came from nothing while still being a material cause? Seeing as, of course, before the Big Bang there was not material to create things of?
Were you there prior to the big bang? How do you know that there cannot be a material cause? And no actually, me not respecting people who believe ridiculous things, does not mean I would actively discriminate against them. I donât respect antivaxxers either but I think we would both agree that is not tantamount to âdiscriminationâ lmao đ€Ł
I wasnât, which is exactly why I asked you the very same question. Neither of us were there, so how can you say that my religion is a myth? You have no solid proof yourself. Additionally there is a different between a harmful belief and religion. The reason youâre discriminating on the basis of religion is you assume people who have faith arenât as intelligent you are
The difference is that there is actual evidence for the causes of all things being material, and zero evidence for the metaphysical. Sure I cannot tell you what exact material cause preceded the big bang, but I can say with relative certainty that it wasnât YHVH just as I can say it wasnât Zeus, or any other fictional character. Even if I accepted your premise that the universe was created (I donât lol) that still gets you no where closer to demonstrating that it was whichever deity you think
I care deeply about what other people think because I have to live in a world with other people whose ideas affect me. If I think other people are believing in ridiculous things I probably want to help show why those things are ridiculous, before they use a ridiculous worldview to impose negative consequences into the real world đ€·ââïž
Thereâs a stark difference between the average Christian and the Christian Nationalist I presume you mean who shoves their beliefs on another. I fully agree that doing so is wrong, but thatâs also why I feel youâre wrong. To either force belief or force a lack of is wrong either way, especially when the only basis for it being âridiculousâ is the fact you werenât there to see it as well.
No the basis for it being ridiculous is that a tri-Omni god is logically impossible, there is no evidence for any particular god or goddess, and science has demonstrated every phenomenon in the universe to have a naturalistic explanation. I am not forcing this belief, just saying that to think otherwise is ridiculous. And Christian nationalists arenât the only Christians capable of causing real harm to others
Atheists are equally as likely to believe in other dogmatic and harmful ideologies as theists. Please get off your high horse and condescending attitude to people who just want to follow their religion in peace. Believing or not believing in god doesnât say anything about your moral compass.
