the real problem with the no kings protest is that it’s toothless. what are the actual demands of the people there? it mostly seems like a way for libs to feel good about not liking trump… and i say this as a trump hate. we need protests with goals.
Im torn with the No Kings protest. On one hand, hell yeah fuck Trump. On the other some of the ppl protesting either 1. Did in fact vote for him 2. Voted third party or not at all 3. Encouraged others not to vote We could have avoided all of this

Based take, I truly think this protest was one of the most useless things to happen in awhile. Estimates put the number at like 7 million and my first thought was “like 50mil voted against him not even a year ago, we already know how many people hate him”. And to your point, yeah fuck trump but is that all this protest was about? Just people who we already know hates trump coming outside to say it? Useless

I think it serves a purpose as far as showing solidarity, helping to bring people into the movement, helping spread information, helping people see that there’s hope…etc. but I do get your point that as far as policy change or any more tangible goals it’s sort of toothless. Do you have any ideas for a more goal oriented type of protest? I feel like that type of thing works better when the people in power care about voters or rule of law in the first place

You connect with your community and organizations like indivisible and the dsa that can do larger projects. You show your local government and your state government that their people want them to oppose the feds. It shows the republicans that they may need to reconsider their strategy in the midterms. Protests work

The goal is to keep doing it until they think it’s safe to ignore.

Overthrow the government and overhaul everything. It’s either that or a civil war. Protests haven’t meant anything since blm, no one takes them seriously or cares. Stop protesting if you actually want to get stuff done. We need an actual Jan 6, not whatever this shit is

true but a civil war is what he wants so he can play more games and somehow plugwalk his ass into more mfn years in office

That’s dumb, no one wants a civil war. Unfortunately it’s just the calumniation of every politician and every citizen becoming so divided that we can’t even keep the government open. This wasn’t trumps master plan

You act like one person will orchestrate everything, be realistic. An event will trigger it, not someone saying “let’s do this!!”

General strikes. Sit-ins. Things that are meant to disrupt the actual systems that make fascism possible in America. Not signs that say “If Kamala was in office we’d be at brunch!” That shit doesn’t help.

Actually a scary number of people do. I’ve had people genuinely make the argument to me that one side or the other is too far gone, so we should just divide the country in half and separate them

I mean yeah ideally we’d overthrow the government and fix all its issues but that’s just theory. Rn people can do nothing, wait for revolution, or go to a feel good protest. So they go to the feel good protest in the meantime yk? You can’t just step out your door and decide to kick off the rebellion on a random Tuesday

I completely agree but what levers do we have when the government isn’t so concerned about violating people’s rights in the first place yk? We can disrupt private businesses that support genocide but what government operations can we disrupt?

Also, and this is just the coward in me speaking, but consequences for those types of things are much greater now. If I engaged in some sort of more disruptive protest I can totally see trump pulling my scholarship cause I go to school in the south. Not saying that that isn’t worth it, but if we’re going to get people like me and the many more vulnerable people than me to join into these disruptive protests they need to be focused and well organized. The trouble is idk how to organize such a th
