It’s so disappointing going from someone who thought of Obama as a hero to someone who sees him for the more standard American warmonger he really was. He still stood for so many good things domestically don’t get me wrong, just wish we had a president to look up to who didnt commit horrendous war crimes

But it sucks too bc I still defend him from the countless inbred backwater fucks who want to attack him for simply being a black man

i mean he for sure authorized some murders, but literally every president has that's in the job description, and by politician standards he was an angel.

An angel? Idk bro, he killed a lot of civilians via drone strikes

I said by politician standards. He's still a politician. Name one president who didn't oversee murders. Oh wait, like I already said, that's literally part of the job. Your problem is with the framework of civilization not Obama.

Sure but he’s a focal point, he’s someone who could’ve single handedly stopped it but didn’t. It’s fair that he gets blamed for his failure there

Objectively it was necessary, the president can't just not bomb people you can't possibly think that. Are you gonna say that about every president ever? They all have to do that. ITS PART OF THE JOB. He can't just have the military do nothing?!?

No it was not necessary for the United States to carelessly bomb civilians in an asymmetrical war against people who are largely not combatants. Idk how much you know about the strikes carried out under his admin but they were often pretty heinous with the number of mistakes and civilian casualties. It’s not necessary to do this at all

I’ll also argue that it’s not necessary for America to maintain its hegemony / empire. We could just act like most other countries and not violate international law when we think the people in our sights have lives that matter less than western lives

You think the president personally oversaw every strike to ensure no civilians were injured? He's not the one making those mistakes.

RIGHT. RIGHT THERE. Your problem is not with the president, it's with the government. The system, not the man. Putting a great man in a bad system doesn't necessarily make him a bad man.

A great man sitting atop an evil system doing nothing to stop its evil is no longer a great man, even if he started as one. He knew how many women and children we bombed, he had that info. Even if he wasn’t the one at the joystick he is the commander in chief, he’s responsible for failing to stop those needless killings just like Biden is responsible for the genocide in Gaza under his term

But why aren't you complaining about every other president? Do you vote? You better not if they're all terrible. Can't vote for an evil person yknow, and if they're all evil, you might as well just give up even thinking about politics.

Because the post is about Obama and not every other president? Also harm reduction isn’t contradictory at all with the realization that most presidents commit war crimes. Less war crimes is always better than more war crimes, thats why I still bothered to vote for Kamala over trump. But I will stop short of calling people like Obama or Biden “hero’s” despite them indeed being less bad

Which, by the way, is why I made sure to mention that Obama had some great domestic policy bc he absolutely did. Just don’t want to act like the man is a saint bc that’s so far from the truth
