I mean the Pentagon is just the DoD building so they’re kinda interchangeable, just like people will say “The White House” to mean “The Administration”

but as for the answer to your question, he’s doing it because it sounds tougher, which I can’t really deny but it’s completely pointless, and a bad step considering the context in which the name was changed

I feel like they’re intentionally trying to make war more glorified Like their whole “words have meaning” thing. I feel like they’re trying to normalize calling people in govt people in charge of war, so that public outcry during a real war is less.. Which they’d only do if they’re planning to be in a war…
