The point of the comment is not the fact that #1 no longer debates with maga but is instead a commentary on how far removed from reality maga is. In this case, #1 bringing up debate and the fact that they genuinely enjoy it but aren't willing to debate maga was a means to express just how bad the anti-intelectualism has gotten among maga.
