Rate them how?

Bro racial minorities have almost always historically been discriminated against by white people in this country, I don’t think it’s surprising or wrong that many minorities feel like they don’t like white people quite as much

I mean yeah plenty of other people are racist that doesn’t surprise me. I think something this leaves out is 1. White people have more incentive to lie. And 2. Institutional racism and unconscious bias can have an impact even when someone isn’t consciously racist.

What do you mean? It's pretty obvious they mean how they rate them overall

I don’t think you can say it’s obvious when there’s zero indication that that’s what it was based on. I’d be more inclined to think the basis had to do with political beliefs, since the data was from American national election studies

Like we all know the sort of suburban white people who will go on and on about how they don’t hate black people but are absolutely fucking terrified of them. Also I did double check and this looks to be legitimate and they just asked respondents to rate on a scale of 0 to 100. It’s self-reported opinions rather than actual behavior

But like yeah no I’m not surprised really I know tons of racist black people and Latinos but they don’t have institutional power or an entire state apparatus meant to repress me.

not liking an entire race is always wrong

Sure but I think there are more or less legitimate reasons to make generalizations. White people have always been at the top of power structures in America and still are for the most part. Many of them work hard to keep minorities out of it like what we’re seeing the trump admin do. I think it’s reasonable to have a less than favorable opinion of those people as a group

Obviously you’d hope that they work around that to give each person they meet a chance, but I don’t think they’re morally wrong for answering that way

fair enough, especially in this case where I highly doubt the methodology was something like “do you dislike this entire race”

If white people are all privileged and have power over other races why would they need to lie about liking them?

Not liking an entire race is always wrong, I agree. Look at the data. It’s a scale of 60-90. Even though black people’s opinions of white people looks like it’s in the gutter, it’s still like 62% compared to ~70% across the white opinion board lmao.

Because there is social pressure not to be seen as racist and to deny the existence of one’s own racial bias. I say this as a privileged white person. People around me frequently say racist things, but don’t realized it’s racist and will get really defensive if you point it out. For a lot of white people, there’s this idea that you aren’t racist so long as you deny being such.

Oh also the methodology was “rate the groups from 0-100” according to the author. I’m sure dividing each race further into highest education level, ethnic background, income, age, etc. would be much more revealing on factors that influence the answers (there’s also historical aspects but that’s beside the point). The graphs are bottom of the barrel econometrics which have more R Studio code to make the graphs pretty than it does for actual analysis

This is like one of the whole themes of the movie Get Out. White people who do racist stuff the whole time saying they are actually colorblind
