DJT is promising $5k to every adult-if Republicans win, and $9k to parents who want to stay home with their kids. Is that not bribery?

It is 😀 and it’s illegal, but as usual the GOP will do nothing about it

Was it bribery for Yang to say he’d implement UBI? Or for Mamdani to say he’d implement state-subsidized social programs?

It’s like a dividend. Country made money through tariffs. I would rather him give people a cut than give it to many of my former coworkers in the government to spend on the nonsense I’ve seen them spend money on and try to justify it. It’s not a huge amount to many of us, but it’s significant enough many people I know will have a path out of credit debt/can get things they need when they are barely paying the bills right now.

UBI isn't bribery, and he doesn't hold political office anyway

Direct cash payouts for votes are considered bribery. Hope this helps

A candidate having financial policies like that in their platform is very different from a sitting president promising to pay Americans if other people in one specific party win their elections

That phrasing makes it seem as if he’s promising $5000 to everyone who votes Republican, but he’s actually promising $5000 to every adult, regardless of voting status, if the Republicans win.

Yeah that’s still bribery actually

A) then why does the “dividend” only payout if Republicans win? And B) the country did not make money through tariffs. They were ruled unconstitutional and they’ve been getting paid back. Paired with Trump’s other tax cuts, the country has been hemorrhaging money faster than ever

A) the fuck if I know. Does it matter or are you so desperate for a political win you would rather people have less because it feeds your pride? B) that remains to be seen.

Are you serious? I want a country that isn’t bribing itself with its own debt into making even worse decisions than it already has. Of course it matters. No American president should ever use the U.S. treasury to buy their party an election. This isn’t hard to understand
