Two neo-nazis shot up a mosque, and it seems like the media’s number one goal while covering the story is to sand down the specifically anti-Muslim character of this vicious attack. Does not say good things about the state of this country.

Notice how the only ppl attacking mosques, synagogues, and churches in this country are Neo-Nazis, not Islamic terrorists

The conservatives are already using this shooting as justification to call for genocide against trans people, even though neither shooter was trans, just because a photo came out of one of them with long hair

After reading about this shit and seeing some of it the their livestream earlier this morning…I actually kind of understand why a good portion of Americans are just checked out. Call me whatever you want, but I just have a hard time legitimately calling these dipshit kids Nazis and feeling like it’s the same as calling someone like Bannon or Stephen Miller one

If you’re willing to call Bannon and Miller Nazis, and you accept that their politics played a role in influencing this attack, then the dipshit kids must be Nazis by extension, even if particularly stupid ones without a coherent ideology

Hitler youth were still Nazis, for example

Sort of. I mean I guess I’m wondering what you mean by Nazi? Not the literal definition, but do you actually believe Hitler Youth were capable of having the intellectual capacity to understand it? I don’t know if I fully agree with using them as an example either only because that was state indoctrination as opposed to these two teenagers, which would be online extremism. This has somewhat got me a bit motivated to understand extremism in a better light, but I honestly don’t think…

I’m going to find anything I don’t already know. This just gives me 1:1 vibes of Columbine

Valid points tbh, and no I don’t believe these guys or the Hitler youth truly possessed the cognitive framework to understand fully. But I do think they can still be included nominally in the group for understanding the wider political environment, i.e., you don’t get Hitler Youth without a Hitler. We may actually pretty much agree tho, bc I do think it’s more valuable to just call them MAGA and recognize how they can be distinct from Nazism while still being comparably hateful and threatening

And I would say “Nazism” itself is definitionally tied to the specific German movement, but it’s an ideology of fascism, hyper nationalism, and demonization of minority out-groups, which does match MAGA rather closely
