And those people also go to Harvard, but international students are huge money makers for the school. Plus, a lot of them stay to do research, and even if they leave it improves the international reputation of American schools that so many people from all over want to go there

What’s obvious is the blatant fucking China is doing to us. You can literally read about the chair of Harvards biology and chemistry department being sponsored by China to literally take all of the research and ship it back to the mainland. It’s not xenophobia… it’s people playing stupid to be virtuous

The research doesn’t just disappear because it benefits two countries? Countries collaborate all the time in labs. Anyways if you’re worried about research dominance in China you should be worried about Trump slashing NSF grants and the brain drain that is causing

I think you grossly underestimate how serious these attacks on universities are to their basic purposes. It is nearly impossible to do research in the US right now and China is actively offering opportunities for US scientists and students to move there. I appreciate that you care about US dominance in research but cutting NSF grants and going after the right of universities to allow foreign students because they aren’t doing what the government wants is wayyy more damaging
