Yeah it’s such a conundrum cus I can’t tell if Platner is acc just stupid or if he’s pretending to be progressive when he’s not I lean towards the second tho

The hard pill to swallow is that American progressivism is still compatible with imperialism and white supremacy. You see it in the way DSA people talk about gentrification and the homeless, in how Bernie talks about migrant workers, in how AOC talks about Venezuela and Cuba

I’ve only gotten that vibe with Bernie’s migrant worker rhetoric, not the others. Could you explain?

It’s a lot to unpack but I can give you a summary. AOC recently said that Trump’s kidnapping of Maduro was bad because it left the regime intact. This kind of rhetoric lends itself to neocon interventionism. She also loudly criticizes the governments of these countries as the US starves and sanctions them. And it’s common for members of DSA, an organization where white people are HEAVILY overrepresented, to dismiss working class PoC concerns about gentrification as ā€œleft nimbyismā€ and to-

support increased policing on public transit even though this disproportionately targets the marginalized. We have Zohran leaving NYPD funding alone while cutting benefits programs for kids and DSA members are defending it!

Ofc not everyone in DSA is like this but these attitudes shouldn’t be found among ANYONE in a socialist organization

I see where you’re coming from. I lowkey might be the same way though. Investments in underserved communities that I support are called ā€œgentrificationā€ by some, and I’m not sure how else to solve safety issues on public transit. I don’t think increased police presence is an amazing idea, considering many other countries function fine without that, but idk how we make people feel safer on public transit

It’s possible that the ā€œleft the regime intactā€ was because she was basically saying ā€œI hate that we did this and ik you guys think this solved everything, but it literally solved nothingā€. I see where she’s coming from with that too, but I don’t think we had any business with any sort of regime change
