Invading Iran, and occupying it, will make Afghanistan look like a cake walk. We will never be successful and it will be the death of the American empire, not to mention trillions of wasted dollars.

The entire world is deeply entrenched as proxies for other powers now, and this was not the case back in the early 2000s

Oh yes ofc, but I would argue it’s been this way ever since WW2. Proxy wars have been the way to do conflict since the Korean War

There was a period of I’d say maybe 30 years after the USSR collapsed that the world was unipolar, and we were fighting terrorist groups and rogue pariah regimes in the Middle East. Great power competition started up again in about the early 2000s
