You do know why certain teams are allowed, right?

Well let me explain it this way. Chiefs - Back in the late 80s they changed the mascot to a wolf and almost exclusively focus on that wolf angle. Blackhawks - named after a tribe leader, with the team being in close relationship with that tribe still, having banned fake Native American headdresses and stuff that is offensive to their culture FSU Seminoles - FSU has a longstanding relationship with the tribe, their main mascot is named in honor of a former leader, and they’ve taken similar act

I think a case could be made to keep braves but the rest are bad for sure

Actions to the Blackhawks in making their stuff less offensive. Braves - This is the only one I’m pretty iffy on defending because they seem to be in some hot water right now about their use of the tomahawk and the origin of their name. And now for the bad ones and why they’re bad

Washington - If it wasn’t obvious, red skin is a slur referring to the color of the skin of Native Americans. Cleveland - The logo is a further embodiment of “red skins”. And their former name Indians implies they are from India, as Columbus thought when he raped and committed genocide against indigenous people.

OP is asking why we can’t not pointing out why it’s bad

It’s also worth noting that FSU was talking to the Seminole nation *of florida*, and ignores that fact that the much larger Seminole nation of Oklahoma has been telling them to change their mascot for a long time.

Yk why that was the logo right? The family it represents?

No I’m saying the twitter post is dumb because there’s nothing really offensive about calling a team the Chiefs, Seminoles, or Blackhawks (admittedly Braves is a bit iffy). Naming a team a literal slur or “Indians” with a bright red offensive caricature of a Native American is clearly inappropriate.

The face is based on an actual person which was done out of honor. Apparently red is a symbolic color of healing for their people.

Each of the teams that are “allowed” have asked for and received permission from the tribes that are near the community. That’s why.
