This protects minors. I’m completely ignorant as to why people need to browse the Internet anonymously other than for a nefarious reasons. Someone do explain why this is bad and why you would need to be anonymous while browsing the internet.
Do you like browsing the internet anonymously? Too bad, because they’re about to require ID for everything. Because billionaires don’t think they have enough money, so they need to collect even more data.

Using children to justify mass surveillance is some real dystopian shit.

They’re gonna fuck over immigrants and trans people with this, eventually. If you’re researching your legal rights as an immigrant or learning about DIY HRT, nothing is stopping a fascist regime for hunting you down for that.

don’t care. the solution to parents not parenting their kids is not mass surveillance. the fact that you think wanting privacy is inherently nefarious is disgusting, you’re a cowardly bootlicker. also, you know the Tea app? how they got hacked which exposed the identities of every user because it used drivers licenses? yeah consider that.

Not to mention that if you don’t use a VPN your IP is attached to everything you do. You could dig an IP and find out everything you need from a person so if you are ever connected to the internet and you IP is not secured you aren’t browsing anonymously. For 80% of people this doesn’t really change anything. Your ISP also sells your information regardless legal or not. The internet isn’t private.

It’s not very private as is, but the other downside to this is that data breaches are going to become all the more catastrophic if this gets rolled out. I’m assuming you’re familiar with the Tea App?

nothing stops the fascist regime from doing that. Palentir if you are familiar with who they are. They grab the IPs of people using those websites and search for those IPs on websites where they can get information on them and they sell it to ICE. That’s just the surface of what they do. I agree with you now we shouldn’t have ID because of that exact reason I take back my point, I still would like minors to be protected but you are right.

to be clear i’m not using it as a justification, im saying that’s also something to be bad about. You are right, and I would normally take down posts if i’m wrong but it’s a good education opportunity

I believe that would be a violation of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act as they would not have access to that information unless the ID is public information which would be insane. But I don’t know

For 80% of Americans they won't even understand what happened yet there's a likelihood that data breaches will make their data even more vulnerable and centralized. Just because most Americans won't understand it doesn't mean it's a good idea. Nobody noticed when the USA PATRIOT Act was signed and recorded everyone's phone calls, were they happy when they found out?
