Blue States are more expensive because people actually wanna live in them, unlike red states. Nobody wants to move to Mississippi, so their real estate stays cheap. People wanna move to New York and California, so their real estate gets expensive. Those two also have geographical advantages, and the real estate really isn’t that cheap either unless you live in the middle of nowhere. Austin and Houston ain’t cheap. Dallas ain’t cheap. Miami and Tampa ain’t cheap. But yeah, you can go live in the swamp/plains of each of those for pretty cheap. You’ll just quickly notice you’re not close to anything and now the grocery store is half an hour away.
people move there because it’s cheaper comparatively, but both texas and florida are notoriously gerrymandered to high hell and the more people move there the harder it gets to hold onto that gerrymander it might be cope, but unironically i fully expect one or both to vote blue at some point in the next few presidential elections. the gerrymander can only do so much.
