Socialized medicine is a horrible idea because then it would take 8 weeks to get a fucking MRI for a torn ACL

It took 10 months for me to get a much-needed kidney operation, I had to suffer chronic pain for almost a year and the whole thing cost me thousands of dollars I'll take my chances with socialized medicine, if there are long wait times then that's nothing new and at least I won't be bankrupted

I have serious neurological symptoms right now and the neuro clinic is scheduling out to December. But American healthcare is so speedy right?

Like in a genuine non snarky way, what would you change about healthcare

Hybrid approach similar to what we have now. But the major change is, give doctors more power. Stop giving the money to fucking bean counter admin that don’t have your best interest in mind, and shove all of that money towards Medicare/medicaid so nobody gets fucked and everyone in the end is better off. Giving total government control is not the move as it has shown that it is already incompetent.

I understand your sentiment and I’m sorry you had to go through that, but the reality is it would be the same if not worse. You probably had a difficult case or your insurance was just being greedy.

If the process was being held up because my insurance was being greedy (which I agree is a strong possibility) then that sounds like a great argument *against* private insurance doesn't it

I’m not saying it is, and I’m not saying the system isn’t broken (it is), I’m just saying there’s better ways to go about it than socialized medicine. What were your doctors telling you for the reason it was held up?

That’s just because there’s not many neurologists that see high acuity symptoms like that on the regular (are trained for it). Unfortunately I think that’s more of a supply and demand thing.

My symptoms are aligned with Parkinson’s. It’s not a supply and demand issue.

Jesus I’m sorry. Where do you live? It could most definitely be a supply and demand issue. And are you trying to go to academic medical centers or just a regular private practice clinic?

Thanks. I’m hoping it’s not but the outlook is bad. I live in Massachusetts, so it’s definitely not a supply and demand issue. I’m going for wherever’s in-network for my insurance, which limits my options greatly. If it weren’t for American healthcare, I’d have far more options available to me for care.

I get it. Like I said, the current system is broken for sure, but I just really think there is a better way to improve healthcare for everyone. If I can recommend anything to you, I would try very hard to go to Massachusetts General Hospital. It’s the best hospital in the country (associated with Harvard), and they have financial assistance programs. Not to mention, they see the most complicated stuff so they would be most prepared to help you compared to everyone else.
