It’s kinda hard to say… but exempting public figures is a really shitty way of handling it especially if there are public figures that are abusers. I would honestly say increase penalties severely for false reporters, removing anonymity for those who false report, and fast-track investigations for those who may be likely to have false reports filed against them like public figures and those going through custody battles and stuff.

Raising the bar for reporting will do absolutely nothing. If someone is willing to make shit up for a CPS report, I doubt increasing the intensity of the thing they’re lying about would be a deterrent. It would endanger other children though by making legitimate reports more challenging.

This! I don’t think we should make it harder for people to report. It is often very difficult to have children taken out of homes that they very much need to be taken out of. I have friends who work in CPS, and some of the worst stories they’ve told me heartbreaking. Instead, we should increase the punishment for false reports. Sure, you can spot someone if you want, but you get to enjoy going to jail for that shit and wasting everybody’s resources and time.

I think the anonymity aspect is very important. Often times, CPS really will only take reports from family members seriously, but when you have people who are afraid to report because they are family, that causes a really big issue. I think at the very least if you should have to report your name to CPS, your name should be hidden from the people who then look up your file unless they are the CPS agents themselves or the police.
