Dude the modern state of Israel has only existed for 80 years there’s so many things that are completely unrelated to it. Hell, American politics only got involved after Kennedy. Israel’s government is a big fuckin problem but this isn’t some “Protocols of the Elders of Zion”-esque conspiracy shit where everything comes back to them.
Regardless of how old the Israeli state is it’s become very clear especially in the past five years that Israel exerts a unique control over our representatives in government. I simply want that to be addressed so we can go back to having a country that actually represents the people and not a foreign nation
Israeli lobbying is a huge problem but it must be recognized that a lot of this support for Israel originates from corrupt motivations within America itself. Some of it is lobbying money, but Israel is actually #10 in terms of foreign lobbying spending in the USA. Some of it is electoral support from Jewish Americans, that’s what caused Kennedy to align with Israel in the first place.
But a huge amount of it is conservatives seeing Israel as a tool. The evangelicals see it as an essential means to ushering in the end times. Some, like Mike Huckabee, instead seem more motivated by Islamophobia. And in the military sense, Israel is viewed as a tool to project U.S. interests in the Middle East. This is why France was originally Israel’s biggest supporters. I see this as counterproductive given the increase in terrorism as a result, but that’s how it is.
I view the bizarre deification of Israel in America’s politics as a huge problem. Both in terms of our national wellbeing and the fate of global democracy itself. But when you say “every thread leads back to Israel” that doesn’t even sound like a critique of American politics that sounds like a 4channer huffing neo-Nazi propaganda.
