Whiteness before sexual identity! (Even if he ain't white, I recon he's Mexican, and their conservatism is bestowed upon them by white colonialism)

Paddy wagon phenomenon. The term always referred to police vehicles, originally because all the passengers were Irish, and then because all the drivers were Irish. When a political movement by and for the marginalized is successful to the point that its beneficiaries are assimilated into the rich/white/cishet mainstream well enough to become enforcers of it.

To be fair, at least half of the GOP leadership is made up of gay men. The Florida ones tend to be more openly gay, and the others are just closeted.

I’m still super lost tbh. Is #1 saying that Spanish immigrants who became citizens are more likely to vote conservative?

latino* spain is a country in europe. and yes almost half voted for trump in the last election. i think 1 was saying that spanish colonialism made them more inclined to support these kinds of policies. whiteness was something to be achieved in latin america for a very long time, even now

Isn’t that the same rate that voted for him among the general population? About half?

i mean sure but white people make up the majority of votes so general population statistics are gonna be skewed by them. other minority groups didn’t vote like that, which is why other minorities, especially black people, were calling out latino voters after the election

This is why statistical literacy is important. Almost half of Latino’s did not vote for Trump because you have to account for huge immigration populations not allowed to vote.

Both gay and latino conservatives usually have a superiority complex over other members of their own demographic. They take pride in being one of "the good ones". Examples of this are "normal gay guys" who hate being associated with trans people and people who are visible with their queerness, or immigrants who take pride in having gone through the legal process.

not subscribing to #1's exact takes, but there are unfortunately hispanic/latino people with tendencies to get more conservative the moment they feel they're slightly above other members of their community. it's a crab in a bucket mentality that divides us and has lent itself to trump being elected.

i never said half of all latinos in america, they asked about latinos with citizenship who voted and i thought it was already inferred that we're talking about registered voters

because they were talking about latinos voters and 45% of registered latino voters voted for trump. it’s not the same across all nationalities tho so i pointed that out

There’s a such thing as moderate conservatives. Someone can be right-leaning and not identify with the stereotypical charlie kirk type conservatives

The cognitive dissonance is crazy. Traitor to your own people (underrepresented groups like minorities and other queer people) There is no moderate conservative in our country. You either support the rise of fascism or you don't. If you voted for Trump, you voted for the gestapo. They're rounding up minorities for now, but then they'll move on to locking up queer people like you.

And if you didn't vote for Trump, what exactly is conservative about you? You think abortion is murder? You think we should have a strong border? Or what? Tell me

Bro respectfully, shut up with that gestapo nonsense. This injustice is not a foreign import, so stop acting like it wasn’t homegrown. ICE are modern day confederate slave catchers. When you reframe our blatantly domestic systemic oppression as foreign, it just upholds American exceptionalism. In this country the “left” is centrist and the “right” is far-right. You are no less of a media bootlicker in practice than the conservatives you claim to detest.

Voting for equality means nothing when you don’t actually practice equality in your daily mindset. Absorbing media tropes is counterproductive to that effort.

True conservatives don’t support the rise of fascism. You’re taking the stereotypical trumpie conservative archetype and applying that to all conservatives. I’m not conservative myself but it’s ridiculous to say someone can’t be gay and align with some conservative ideals
