no, you do not live in the constant fear of scrutinization. They already compare Muslims to 9/11 and mamdani as a person who did 9/11 somehow. It is always like this, right critisizes, left makes tiny thing that can be critisized, rigjt critisizes harder, and centrists say "noo why did they do something that can be critisized"

I mean I also tend to think you probably just shouldn’t be joking around at a ceremony when they’re actively reading the names of 9/11 victims, not just out of fear of criticism, and especially as the mayor of NYC or a congressperson representing part of New york

do you know why they laughed or if they did or did you just assume?

Well obviously I don’t know why they were laughing but it was a video of them both laughing so I didn’t just assume that. I don’t know why the topic of their joke would really change things

bro you’ve never shared a chuckle over the remembrance of a loved one or the strength in the darkest times? i tend to smile and laugh thinking about how soldiers spent their down time in Vietnam, knowing how much harrowing and horrific shit they were subjected to. you’re just assuming they’re making jokes instead of commiserating in their shared experience as kids in NYC during the event…

We can’t just act like 9/11 isn’t a deeply disturbing day in our history. It’s very emotionally heavy to learn or talk about, so it’s a very natural thing to try to find something to laugh or smile about today. It’s not out of disrespect for anyone, it’s out of a will for remembering while also acknowledging where we’ve come since that day.

Seems like some time during the remembrance there was something that made AOC and Mamdami laugh probably completely unrelated to what was happening. Right wing dipshits have to twist to evil Dems laugh at 9/11 victims
