Also, these aren’t NEARLY as bad as Texas and you know this.

Picking Nevada as if this isn’t one of the least gerrymandered states

These are done in the census every decade (2010, 2020, 2030). Texas doing this for the midterms is a clear ploy to undermine our democratic systems as they stand.

Oh so gerrymandering is okay as long as it’s done at the start of the decade?

You genuinely believe that Republicans getting a minority of seats in a state they won the popular vote in is BETTER than Texas? Least biased liberal over here…

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> OP 13w

yes?? because congressional seats are decided by district, as a state overall. illinois’s is pretty gerrymandered, but the districts in Nevada are perfectly logical.

the districts in nevada are quite normally shaped.

Anonymous replying to -> #2 13w

Umm no. Distracts must meet several criteria. Yes, one is that they must be reasonably shaped. But another is that they must be as equal as possible to the states popular vote. A more fair Nevada map would have two Vegas based districts and then one with some Vegas suburbs stretching up the California border to Carson City

Your second point just isn’t true. That’s not how districts are drawn, if we did that it’d literally be gerrymandering, because you’d be intentionally diluting organic communities (i.e. cities) to match the voting habits of sparsely populated rural areas. districts have to be roughly equal in population.

Anonymous replying to -> #2 13w

Yes. You are correct. I misspoke and I’m sorry for that. That being said, the makeup of the congressional delegation should be representative of the state as a whole. Because that’s what politicians are supposed to do. And representing 25% of districts in a state where you got about 50% of the popular vote is not representative. Just admit that Nevada’s map is gerrymandered 😂

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 13w

It isn’t. And frankly I would support them gerrymandering it to be more blue since Texas has declared intentions to literally rig the midterms with early redistricting. If you want more representative districts, perhaps we should expand the house which we randomly stopped doing in the 1920s.

Magically the 2 Dem districts are D+26, and D+21 being packed when the republicans are spread out and cracked across the districts to get a good safe seat but also competitive seat spread.

And that’s literally what I’m saying about Nevada too lmao. Most republicans packed into one deep red district and then the other three are magically just enough to be lean democrat. But you’re saying Nevada isn’t gerrymandered. Makeup your mind lol

I doubt it the Dems have been pretty alr on gerrymandering with most of the Dem states having independent commissions.

There’s also a reason I’m skeptical they will even redraw after the Texas thing. If they do even this is anti democratic when your opponents are doing it and you don’t you are just giving up.

Pennsylvania is rlly good imo it’s split 50/50 which for a state that basically votes 50/50 is good

Pennsylvania’s old map was one of the most cursed things I’ve ever seen. I’m so glad that’s gone even if I did give the GOP the advantage

I personally advocate tho for instead of landed voting do it by % where if let’s say state voted 60% Dem but 40% Republican in a state with like 10 reps you’d send 6 Dems and 4 republicans who rank the highest kind of like Germanys parliament
