Nationalism is the simple belief that you should put your nation and your nation’s interests before that of other nations and their interests. It doesn’t mean we think our country is better than all other countries or that all other countries are terrible, but our country is OUR country, and for that, we have pride in it. It really is a reasonable ideology when you actually understand what you’re talking about.

Yes… I support my country’s interests over that of other countries. Is that supposed to be wrong? Do you favor your own family over other families?

You’re missing out that the key part of modern nationalism, especially in the US, is the DETRIMENT that occurs to other countries. No, if something is going to help my family, but we’re already doing alright and it would hurt another family, I am not going to do that thing.

Perhaps with imperialism or jingoistic interventionist policies, but as a pan-nationalist, I believe every nation has a right to exist and they should all be nationalists just like our nation. One can absolutely respect the sovereignty of other nations while pursuing his own interests. Also, yes, if there is ever a situation where I have to choose between helping my country or another, I will pick my country, as should those other of other nations pick their respective nations.
