So I’m an atheist from a Catholic background, and while the church was insanely corrupt during the Renaissance, given all we know, the protestant reformation was surely a disaster for humanity. calvinism in particular is the root of basically all evil of the modern world (the consequences of predestination are immense on the culture of the US). we can thank the reformation for things so diverse and wonderful as capitalism and fascism
