It is a little unusual that Americans never directly cast their ballot in a single nationwide election Most democratic countries have at least a mechanism for a nationwide referendum when needed. But yeah a lot of countries just do proportional representation like they’d have the house majority leader pick the president

“It’s tyranny when the person most Americans want to be president gets elected”

You call it mob rule but checks and balances make this not even an issue

People don’t matter more just because they live in a rural area. Do you think we should give ethnic minorities disproportionate representation? Probably not, because you only care about yourself having more say.

It’s very funny when they say “the person most Americans voted for becomes president” is “tyranny of the majority.” Also as if that’s not how house, governor, senate, etc elections all work.

How is giving disproportionate representation to minority ethnic groups different in concept than the electoral college? Is there not tyranny of the ethnic majority? In fact I’d argue it’s probably a better policy than the electoral college.

It was instituted because slave states didn’t want to give up power

Also why is that different than ethnic minorities? What about a geographic region makes it more important for representation than ethnic minorities?

It’s since states are like their own thing, not merely regions/provinces (although there are provinces similar to US states and v.va) But yeah the reason why they made the senate was because of the Great Compromise lol
